Upcoming Interurban Trolley Service Changes

The Interurban Trolley is updating its schedule to improve efficiency and ensure that we use public funding responsibly. While most riders won't see any changes, some early-morning and late-evening trips are being adjusted.

32 Green Starts at 6:00 am.; Ends at 6:30 pm. Starts at 6:00 am; Ends at 6:30 pm.
33 Blue No Changes. Times shifted by 30 mins for better connections. Now runs 5:30 am – 6:25 pm
35 Orange Starts at 6:00 am; Ends at 6:21 pm. Starts at 6:30 am; Ends at 5:51 pm. Buses now depart at 30 minutes past the hour.
50 Red 5:30 am (Elkhart) and 6:30 am (Goshen) trips removed. Service is now hourly (leaving at 30 minutes past the hour) from 5:30 am – 5:30 pm (Elkhart) and 6:30 am - 6:30 pm (Goshen)

Why are these changes happening?

We analyzed our ridership data to identify the trips with the fewest passengers.

  • Efficiency: We are removing trips that were very expensive to operate due to low use.
  • Impact: These changes affect only about 1.4% of weekday riders.
  • Savings: These adjustments will save over $123,000 annually, allowing us to keep the rest of the system running strong and reliably.

Detailed Breakdown of Service Modifications

  • Route 30 Yellow

    • Weekdays: The very early starts at Bittersweet or Mishawaka Transfer Center are moving to Walmart on Ash. This is because those trips were too early to connect with Transpo buses.
    • Saturdays: Service between Bittersweet and Elkhart from 5:30 am to 7:30 am is discontinued.

  • Route 32 Green

    • Weekdays & Saturdays: Service now operates from 6:00 am to 6:30pm, (same schedule on weekdays & Saturdays) 5:00 am Southwest Loop and 5:30 am and 6:30 pm Northwest Loop discontinued
    • Minor Routing Changes: Faith Mission now receives service in both directions, Health Department and Church Community Services now serviced by Northwest Loop.

  • Route 33 Blue

    • Weekdays: No service changes. This route is the most productive on the Interurban Trolley.
    • Saturdays: We are shifting the schedule by 30 minutes. Buses will now arrive at the Elkhart Transfer Center at :30 (bottom of the hour) instead of the top of the hour to help you make your connections more easily.

  • Route 35 Orange

    • Weekdays: First trip will now leave Elkhart at 6:00 am, final trip of the day will end at Main & Hively at 6:21 pm (you will be able to transfer to a Route 50 bus to return downtown).
    • Saturdays: Will operate from 6:30 am to 5:51 pm (last trip also ending at Main & Hively), with the schedule shifting by 30 minutes. Buses will now arrive at the Elkhart Transfer Center at :30 (bottom of the hour) instead of the top of the hour to help you make your connections more easily.

  • Route 50 Red

    • Weekdays: Service departing from the Elkhart Transfer Center at 5:30 am and the Goshen Walmart at 6:30 am is being discontinued. All other trips will remain the same. There will still be a 5:00 am and 6:00 am departure from Elkhart.
    • Saturdays: To align with other regional services, the Red Line will change from every 30 minutes to every hour. The good news? The final bus will leave 30 minutes later than it does now, at 5:30 pm.

Minor Routing Changes:

    • Southwest Loop will now service Faith Mission and Rosedale Apartments in both directions, leaving downtown via Benham Avenue, MLK Drive, to 6th Street, to Indiana Avenue to Oakland Avenue, resuming regular route at Oakland Avenue
    • Northwest Loop now provides service to the Heath Department, Lincoln Center, and Church Community Services. Leaving downtown via Marion Street to Oakland Avenue to Indiana, resuming regular route after Franklin Street
    • Northwest Loop no longer pulls into Elkhart Plaza West (where the now closed Martin's on Nappanee/Bristol Streets was) passengers must board on Bristol Street.
